VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK
This is a natural park which is located in the north of our country. It has been created in 1925 to protect the last families of Mountain gorillas in the world. I t covers 5 peaks of extinct volcanoes which are:
- Kalisimbi with 4507 M
- Muhabura with 4127 M
- Bisoke with 3711 M
- Sabyinyo with 3634 M
- Gahinga with 3474 M.
Some of those peaks have crater lakes and can be hiked up their top. This is the case of Bisoke which offers a nice view of lake when you arrive at its peak after 3 hours of hiking.
This park offers to tourists many options of activity. Main one is visiting mountain gorilla. The park is also home to other species of primates like Golden monkeys which are visited too. Kalisimbi and Muhabura volcanoes are often hiked, the first in two days and the latter in one day. The Volcanoes National Park is at 2h30 driving from Kigali and no far from Gisenyi, an other town which is located in the shores of peaceful lake Kivu and its beige beach.
Closer to the park, lie Bulera and Ruhondo lakes which are common known under their nickname of “twin lakes” as they are so close and alike. These lakes offer a magic view to people who decide to take a scenic drive all around them.
In this party of our country, hotels and lodges of all kinds are found.
